So since 2002 when I first saw the trailer for Lord of the Rings I have had a great desire to read the books. I have a rule that governs my entertainment and here it is: If I have a desire to read a book and said book has been made into a movie I must first read the book before watching the movie. So needless to say I have never watched Elijah Wood as Frodo or Orlando Bloom as Legolas. That is until last night. You can only imagine the reactions I have received over the past several years when I mention I have never seen the movies. Well I am done with those reactions. This Christmas I asked for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy book set. My sister-in-law Kristie came through. Last week I finished the first book. I really liked it. JRR Tolkien is an amazing author with a very vivid imagination. I really enjoyed my journey through Middle Earth. So of course my knee jerk reaction to finishing the book was to watch the first movie. After 3 hours I was again entertained although somewhat disappointed at the missing content of the movie. But overall a great flick. The visual graphics were amazing. I am definitely glad I read the book first since the book was much better than the movie. So 1/3 done with #8.So if there are any of you out there who have not seen the movies I would recommend the books first.
